Jamie Laning, LMSW
Trauma-Focused, CBT, DBT skills, Mindfulness
Meet Jamie!
There's no such thing as an ideal client. What I'm passionate about is people who are ready to show up authentically and who want a therapist who'll do the same.
I blend CBT, DBT skills, mindfulness, and person-centered approaches, but I'm not married to any one modality. Therapy should fit you, not the other way around, so we'll keep what clicks and leave what doesn't. My work is trauma informed and harm reduction focused, and grounded in approachability and evidence based care.
I have a particular focus on military service members, veterans, and first responders, as well as people who are justice involved; a commitment that actually traces back to why I chose Syracuse University in the first place. Nearly all of my research, both undergraduate and graduate, has centered on military populations, with a specific focus on military sexual trauma and PTSD. I also have experience working with people navigating trauma and PTSD, depression, anxiety, ADHD, anger, chronic pain, self harm, suicidal ideation, and LGBTQ+ individuals. If your situation isn't on this list, reach out anyway; I love a chance to get creative.
Expect sessions that are warm, collaborative, and refreshingly unfiltered; progress monitoring, the occasional homework assignment, and maybe an f-bomb or two. Finding a therapist can feel like speed dating, but with a higher price tag. If you're looking for a space to be fully yourself while doing real work, I'd love to hear from you.
Outside of work, you can usually find me lost in a crime novel, doing some kind of art or craft project, out taking photos, or hanging out with my three very spoiled rescue cats.
Education: MSW, Syracuse University; BS in Psychology, Wilmington University.
