Specialized Treatment for First Responders

First Responder Focused Services

Therapy

Welcome to our psychotherapy practice, dedicated to providing specialized mental health services to first responders. Our practice understands the unique challenges and stressors that come with being a first responder and we are committed to helping individuals overcome the mental health issues that may arise from their work.

We offer a safe and confidential environment where clients can explore their thoughts and emotions with a licensed therapist who has experience in working with first responders. Our approach to therapy is evidence-based and tailored to meet the individual needs of each client.

Hypnosis

“Hypnosis is a mental state of highly focused concentration, diminished peripheral awareness, and heightened suggestibility.” Retrieved from https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/basics/hypnosis

I have successfully utilized hypnosis and / or guided meditation to help my clients relax and find a safe or calm space after discussing traumatic events. Additionally, I have used hypnosis with clients seeking to improve diet, increase motivation, eliminate use of chewing tobacco, and resolve performance related anxieties (i.e. test anxiety, ED issues related to anxiety, etc) and more.  Hypnosis can be conducted in person or in the comfort of your own home via telehealth from anywhere in the world.

Recently I partnered with Thomas Garay of Fighting Mind Hypnosis. Thomas utilizes hypnosis to assist clients seeking to change unwanted behaviors, such as improving diet, increasing motivation, eliminating use of chewing tobacco, and resolving performance related anxieties (i.e. test anxiety, sports competitions, etc.)

EMDR

I was first exposed to EMDR through my work with the Green Cross.  I was able to experience the benefits firsthand in dealing with my own traumatic memories.  I do not automatically trust a new intervention or therapy technique, but after having a memory from a distress causing level to the manageable level of a normal unpleasant memory in one session I was hooked!

So what is EMDR?  EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and it is a type of psychotherapy that can be helpful for people who have experienced traumatic events or disturbing memories. During an EMDR session, I will guide you through a series of eye movements or other types of bilateral stimulation while they focus on the traumatic memory or emotion. This can help you to reprocess the memory in a more adaptive way, reducing the intensity of the emotional response and the associated distress. Essentially, EMDR helps the brain to process traumatic memories in a more healthy and productive way, so that they no longer have the same power over the your emotions and behaviors. It is a non-invasive and evidence-based treatment option that has been shown to be effective for a wide range of trauma-related conditions.

Coaching

Through coaching I help clients develop their personal capabilities, interpersonal skills and capacity to understand and empathize with others. Coaching can help you to work through career goals, personal goals, or help you to maintain sobriety.
